A 3 days training programme on “Sustainable Pig Production in Rural” organized by KVK Namsai

        7th June, 2024: A 3 days training programme on “ Sustainable Pig Production in Rural” organized by KVK Namsai at its own premises is concluded today. The training was sponsored by ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Barapani under TSP Head of AICRP on Pig. During the programme, Dr. Binod Kr. Dutta Borah, SMS, Animal Science described details about the manage-mental expects of pig rearing at rural including housing, feeding and disease management. He was given more emphasis to prevent fatal diseases like classical swine fever through periodic vaccination and African swine fever through adopting strict biological control measures. In the inaugural session of the programme on 5th June, 2024, Dr. U. Barua, Senior Scientist & Head of the centre spoke about the scope of swine production in rural areas of Namsai district and how it can enhance the rural economy by utilizing the local resources or household waste resources in swine production. Dr. M.S.Bora, SMS, Plant Protection also highlighted the importance of integrated pig, fish, paddy or horticulture based farming model for maximum profit. Dr, Sourabh Deori, Senior Scientist and PI-AICRP on Pig from ICAR RC for NEHR, Barapani also attended the programme as resource person and spoke about the breed and breeding management of pig. He also urged the trainees to adopt A.I.technology to bred their sows for production of quality piglets. Ms. N. Munglang, SRF of NICRA project also actively participated in the programme and spook on environment friendly farm management. A total of 20 trainees were attended in the programme. 40 numbers of improved variety cross-bred piglets like Lumsniang and HDK-75 (75% Hampshire 25% Local) were distributed amongst the farmers along with feeds and medicines.
